Testing Time
This is a big week for college entrance exams. This Friday is the regular registration deadline for the October 22 ACT test and Tuesday is the late registration deadline for the October 1 SAT test. While there is a lot of discussion about how numerous colleges and universities are taking a more holistic approach to admissions decisions, these scores are still a valuable part of the college admissions process. Schools like Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma invite you to still submit your scores because they can be beneficial. In Texas, they can satisfy TSI requirements to support your course placement or can help you in contention for scholarships. Other schools can use those scores for admissions, scholarships, and/or course placement.
Also, the national PSAT test is coming soon! On October 12, 11th grade students and many 10th grade students will have the opportunity to shine on the National Merit qualifier. This 2 hour and 45-minute exam consists of 3 tests: Reading, Writing and Language, and Math.
Since COVID, the pressure has lessened a bit on these tests, but they definitely can still help your student. The Kid Connection (TKC) is ready to help your students prepare. Did you know, we offer test preparation classes? Sometimes understanding the tips and tricks for taking tests, learning problem solving strategies, and improving time management on a test can really make a difference between different scholarship levels.
As a side note, did you know the smell of peppermint can often enhance your brain activity? Simply sucking on a peppermint while taking a test is usually acceptable and often encouraged.
Whether you are preparing for the STAAR or preparing for college entrance exams, TKC is excited to partner with you on your educational journey. We look forward to seeing you in a test prep class soon!
